LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo has announced he will step down at the end of the 2025 MLS season, citing a desire to return to Germany with his family. Cherundolo, who has been with LAFC since January 2022, has enjoyed remarkable success, including winning the Supporters Shield and the MLS Cup in his first season. He led the team to a 2024 US Open Cup Championship, boasting an impressive overall record of 87 wins, 43 losses, and 26 ties across all competitions.
LAFC co-president and general manager, John Sorrington, praised Cherundolo as a great leader and one of the top coaches in the league, expressing gratitude for his contributions. In his second season, Cherundolo guided LAFC to the finals of both the CONCACAF Champions League and MLS Cup, a notable achievement for an MLS coach.
Cherundolo, a San Diego native, has a solid record of 58 wins, 31 losses, and 21 draws in the MLS regular season, along with an impressive playoff record. The team’s shared goals remain unchanged for the remainder of the season as they prepare for his departure.
