Microsoft has appointed a new Chief Human Resources Officer amid a reevaluation of its performance review process. Kathleen Hogan, who has served in the role since 2014, will transition to the position of executive vice president of the Office of Strategy and Change. Amy Coleman, a veteran HR executive at Microsoft, will succeed Hogan as Chief Human Resources Officer.
CEO Satya Nadella announced the change in an email, highlighting the need for a mindset that adapts to rapid industry changes, especially in the age of AI. The decision follows a review that identified nearly 2,000 employees as low performers earlier this year.
Hogan had played a key role in establishing a workplace culture centered around a “growth mindset,” which emphasizes skill development through challenges. Nadella noted that this leadership transition has been in discussion for some time and is essential for focusing on cultural transformation and talent retention.
Coleman, who has extensive experience in various HR roles at Microsoft, is expected to significantly influence the redesign of the company’s performance review process. Nadella expressed confidence in Coleman’s ability to drive operational excellence and ensure continued success as the company navigates its next phase of change.
